About Aileen

After acknowledging that office life and I weren’t really compatible, I began to think about what I’d like to do instead.

Having decided against a career in nursing in favour of studying Modern Languages (which I loved), my thoughts turned back towards the idea of working in healthcare – but in what capacity…?

I’d always enjoyed watching and taking part in sport and had suffered the occasional injury which can result from that, and it was after seeing a sports massage therapist about my knee – and coming away feeling better – that I realised I’d found the career I’d been looking for.

I trained at Sports Therapy UK (formerly The Academy of Sports Therapy) and with the Football Association, and in 2003, after some work experience at Barnet Football Club and London Kiwis RFC, I left my office job in the City and began my new career as a sports massage therapist.

Over the years I’ve added to my qualifications and now incorporate other techniques such as trigger point therapy and myofascial release into my sports and remedial massage treatments.

You’re in Good Hands

I enjoy playing sport and exercising and only stopped playing cricket with Crouch End Women’s Cricket Team due to my move to Skipton in 2025 (leaving as Player of the Season and leading wicket taker in the league!).

I’ve taken part in several triathlons, including Blenheim and London, as well as the odd 5k, 10k and half marathon.

I have to admit, I got out of the habit of exercising regularly and have only just started again – and it feels so much harder than it used to be!

So I know all about the aches and pains you can get sitting at a desk all day as well as the aches and pains you can get from training – and I also know that you don’t have to put up with them!

Whatever your reason for needing a treatment, at AK Massage Therapy you’re in good hands.
